About Gwayi Catchment

Gwayi Catchment is one of the seven hydrological catchments managed by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA). It is based on the Gwayi River Basin, which flows from central Zimbabwe westwards into the Zambezi River system.

Location

The Gwayi Catchment is located in the western part of Zimbabwe, covering parts of:

Matabeleland North Province
Midlands Province (small sections)

Tsholotsho
Hwange (border area)
Nkayi

Major Rivers

Gwayi River (main river flowing west into the Zambezi)
Shangani River (tributary to the Gwayi)
Gwayi Shangani River system tributaries

These rivers ultimately drain into the Zambezi River through the Gwayi Shangani system.

Lake Gwayi Dam (major water storage facility on the Gwayi River)
Lupane Dam (small irrigation and domestic supply dam)

About Sanyati Catchment

The Sanyati Catchment is one of the seven hydrological catchments managed by ZINWA. It is based on the Sanyati River Basin, which flows from central Zimbabwe toward Lake Kariba. The catchment is located in the central-western part of Zimbabwe.

Mzingwane Catchment is one of the seven hydrological catchments managed by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA). It is based on the Mzingwane River Basin, a key tributary of the Limpopo River, flowing through southwestern Zimbabwe toward Mozambique.
