Overview

Lake Mutirikwi (formerly Lake Kyle) is one of Zimbabwe's largest inland lakes, located southeast of Masvingo. Created between 1958 and 1960 after the construction of the Kyle Dam on the Mutirikwi River, the lake plays a vital role in supplying irrigation water to the agricultural estates of the Lowveld, especially sugar cane plantations.

The Mutirikwi Dam is a double-curvature concrete arch, measuring 309 metres in length and 63 metres in height. It remains one of the most significant pieces of water infrastructure in Zimbabwe and continues to support agriculture, recreation, and power generation.
